and listen to 너무 놀란 나머지, 걱정한 나머지, and 긴장한 나머지 실수했어요. Hear how 나머지 adds an “overwhelmed to the point that...” feeling.

🌈 The Big Picture

나머지 usually means the rest / remainder, but in grammar it can mean:

as a result of being too much / overwhelmed by something

The pattern -(으)ㄴ/는 나머지 connects:

excessive cause → unintended or regrettable result

Examples:
  • 너무 놀란 나머지 아무 말도 못 했어요.
    • [neo-mu nol-lan na-meo-ji a-mu mal-do mot hae-sseo-yo]
I was so surprised that I couldn’t say anything.
  • 긴장한 나머지 쉬운 문제도 틀렸어요.
    • [gin-jang-han na-meo-ji swi-un mun-je-do teul-lyeo-sseo-yo]
I was so nervous that I even got an easy question wrong.
  • 걱정한 나머지 밤새 잠을 못 잤어요.
    • [geok-jeong-han na-meo-ji bam-sae ja-meul mot ja-sseo-yo]
I was so worried that I couldn’t sleep all night.

This pattern is more advanced than simple -아서/어서. It sounds like the cause became excessive enough to push someone into an unwanted result.
