🎨 The Core Packing Family

1. 짐 — luggage / belongings / stuff 🧳

The everyday word for luggage or one's things. "짐을 싸다" means "to pack luggage" and "짐이 많다" means "to have a lot of stuff."

Note: At airports, the more formal word 수하물 is used instead.

2. 챙기다 — to pack / gather / make sure to bring 📦

Implies care not to forget something. "여권을 챙기다" means "to make sure to bring your passport."

Note: Always pairs with an object — you "챙기다" something specific.

3. 필수품 — essential items / necessities ✅

Refers to must-have items for a trip or situation. "여행 필수품" means "travel essentials."

Note: Different from 준비물, which is a broader "things to prepare/bring" list (often used for school).

4. 가볍게 — lightly ☁️

An adverb describing doing something with minimal weight or effort. "가볍게 싸다" means "to pack lightly."

Note: From 가볍다 (to be light) + 게 (adverb ending).

5. 정리 — organizing / tidying / sorting 🗂️

Refers to arranging or sorting things. "짐을 정리하다" means "to organize one's luggage/belongings."

Note: Different from 정돈, which focuses more on tidiness/neatness of a space.

1. 여행 가기 전에 필수품부터 챙기는 게 좋아요.

Before traveling, it's good to pack the essentials first.

→ 필수품부터 (starting with the essentials) + 챙기는 게 좋아요 (it's good to pack/gather) gives advice.

2. 짐을 가볍게 싸려고 옷을 줄였어요.

I reduced my clothes to pack lightly.

→ 가볍게 싸려고 (in order to pack lightly) explains the purpose of 옷을 줄였어요 (reduced clothes).

3. 캐리어를 정리하면서 빠뜨린 물건이 없는지 확인했어요.

While organizing my suitcase, I checked if I forgot anything.

→ 정리하면서 (while organizing) + 빠뜨린 물건이 없는지 확인했어요 (checked if there was nothing left out) shows simultaneous actions.

챙기다 (to pack/gather) → 챙겨요 (polite present), 챙긴 (attributive, "the packed ___"), 챙겼어요 (past), 챙겨야 해요 (must pack)

정리하다 (to organize) → 정리해요 (polite present), 정리한 (attributive), 정리했어요 (past)
