You might describe your 취향 (taste/preference), say whether you 가리다 (are picky about) certain foods, ask for a 추천 (recommendation), and share 솔직하게 (honestly) whether something suits your 입맛 (palate). This lesson covers the essential vocabulary for discussing dietary preferences.

🎨 The Core Dietary Preferences Family

1. 취향 — preference / taste 🎨

A general word for personal preference or taste, applicable to food, music, style, etc. "제 취향이에요" means "It's my (kind of) thing."

Note: Broader than 입맛, which is specific to food/flavor.

2. 가리다 — to be picky / choosy (about food) 🙅

Describes being selective, especially about food. "음식을 가리지 않아요" means "I'm not picky about food."

Note: Compare with 까다롭다 (to be fussy/difficult in general, broader personality trait).

3. 추천 — recommendation 👍

Refers to suggesting something good based on quality or experience. "추천해 주세요" means "Please recommend something."

Note: Compare with 제안 (proposal/suggestion), which is more general (ideas, plans).

4. 솔직하게 — honestly 💬

The adverb form of 솔직하다, used to describe doing something honestly. "솔직하게 말하면" means "to speak honestly."

5. 입맛 — palate / taste (in food) 👅

2. 음식을 가리지 않고 다 잘 먹어요.

I'm not picky about food and eat everything well.

→ 음식을 가리지 않고 (without being picky about food) + 다 잘 먹어요 (I eat everything well).

3. 솔직하게 말하면, 입맛에 안 맞아요.

Honestly speaking, it doesn't suit my taste.

→ 솔직하게 말하면 (honestly speaking) + 입맛에 안 맞아요 (it doesn't suit my taste).

취향 (preference) → combines with particles: 취향이다 (to be one's preference), 취향에 맞다 (to suit one's taste/style)

가리다 (to be picky, verb) → 가려요 (polite present), 가렸어요 (past), 가리지 않다 (to not be picky — negation)

추천 (recommendation) → 추천하다 (to recommend, dictionary form), 추천해요 (polite present), 추천해 주세요 (please recommend)

솔직하다 (to be honest, adjective) → 솔직하게 (adverb form, modifies a verb), 솔직한 (attributive)
