Koreans frequently use 생각보다 when reacting to new experiences — food, places, prices, or events. It's a polite and natural way to share an opinion without sounding judgmental, because it frames your reaction as a personal expectation gap rather than a bold claim. Saying 이거 별로예요 (this is not great) can sound blunt, but 생각보다 별로예요 (it's not as good as I expected) sounds honest and reflective.
