TL;DR
  • Learn the TOPIK I job-hunting words that often appear in notices, simple forms, and workplace conversations.
  • Focus on meaning pairs: 지원하다–합격하다, 이력서–면접, 경력–신입, 모집–채용.
  • In practice, read for the situation first: applying, interviewing, getting results, or starting work.
🎧
🎧 Helper Note
Read each Korean example aloud twice. First read naturally, then read again while stressing the key word: 면접, 이력서, 지원, 합격, 경력.

🔑 The Big Picture

Job-hunting vocabulary appears in TOPIK I because it belongs to everyday adult life: reading a short job notice, talking about an interview, filling out a form, or understanding an application result.
For TOPIK I, the sentences are usually short and direct. You do not need business-level Korean, but you should quickly recognize who is applying, what document is needed, when the interview happens, and whether the result is positive or negative.

🧩 Core Concepts / Patterns

1. Applying for a job

  • 지원하다: to apply
    • 저는 카페 아르바이트에 지원했습니다.
  • 신청하다: to apply/register, often for a program or form
    • 인터넷으로 신청하세요.
  • 모집하다: to recruit / look for people
    • 우리 식당에서 직원을 모집합니다.

2. Documents and information

  • 이력서: résumé
    • 면접 전에 이력서를 보내 주세요.
  • 사진: photo
    • 이력서에 사진을 붙이세요.
  • 연락처: contact information
    • 이름과 연락처를 쓰세요.

3. Interview and result

  • 면접: interview
    • 면접은 금요일 오후 두 시입니다.
  • 합격하다: to pass / be accepted
    • 저는 면접에 합격했습니다.
  • 불합격하다: to fail / not be accepted
    • 이번에는 불합격했지만 다시 지원할 거예요.

4. Experience and position

  • 경력: work experience
    • 경력이 없어도 지원할 수 있습니다.
  • 신입: new employee / beginner-level applicant
    • 이 회사는 신입 사원을 모집합니다.
  • 직원: employee, staff member
    • 새 직원을 찾고 있습니다.

Useful TOPIK I sentence patterns

  • N에 지원하다: apply to/for N
    • 회사에 지원합니다.
  • N을/를 제출하다: submit N
    • 이력서를 제출하세요.
  • N이/가 필요하다: N is needed
    • 사진이 필요합니다.
  • N 후에 V: after N, V
    • 면접 후에 결과를 알려 드립니다.

✅ Exam Strategy

  1. Find the situation word first.
    1. If you see 이력서, the topic is probably applying. If you see 면접, the topic is probably an interview. If you see 합격, the topic is the result.
  1. Check who does the action.
    1. 지원합니다 means the applicant applies. 모집합니다 means the company or store recruits.
  1. Watch time and required items.
    1. Job notices often test small details: date, time, place, phone number, photo, résumé, or experience.
  1. Use positive/negative result words carefully.
    1. 합격 is positive. 불합격 is negative. Do not choose an answer only because it contains a job word.

⚠️ Pitfalls

  • 지원하다 and 모집하다 are opposite sides of the same situation. A person 지원해요; a company 모집해요.
  • 이력서 is the document. 면접 is the meeting or interview.
  • 경력 means previous work experience. It is not the same as 능력.
  • 신입 means beginner/new employee. It does not mean “student.”
  • In notices, 제출하세요 means “please submit,” so look for what item must be submitted.
