Most of these verbs already appeared in earlier lessons (๊ฐ€๋‹ค, ๋จน๋‹ค, ์‚ฌ๋‹ค, ๋งŒ๋‚˜๋‹ค...); this page collects them with the rest so you have all 50 essential action words in one place. Vocabulary Building: Contextual Usage
"> to review how conjugation patterns apply across irregular stems.
Example: ์ €๋Š” ๋งค์ผ ํ•œ๊ตญ์–ด๋ฅผ ๊ณต๋ถ€ํ•˜๊ณ , ์นœ๊ตฌ๋ฅผ ๋งŒ๋‚˜๊ณ , ์ง‘์—์„œ ์‰ฌ์–ด์š”. (Every day I study Korean, meet friends, and rest at home.)

๐ŸŽฏ Big Picture

Korean verbs always end in ๋‹ค in their dictionary form โ€” ๊ฐ€๋‹ค, ๋จน๋‹ค, ํ•˜๋‹ค โ€” but that ๋‹ค is just a placeholder. To actually use a verb in a sentence, you drop ๋‹ค and attach an ending (๋ณดํ†ต -์•„์š”/-์–ด์š”/-ํ•ด์š” for the polite present tense). Once you know the stem and which conjugation family it belongs to, you can plug in any of these 50 verbs and start forming sentences immediately.
A few of these verbs are irregular โ€” their stem changes shape before certain endings (๋“ฃ๋‹คโ†’๋“ค์–ด์š”, ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋‹คโ†’๋ชฐ๋ผ์š”, ๋•๋‹คโ†’๋„์™€์š”). Don't worry about memorizing every irregular rule today; just notice the pattern as you go through the sets below, and it'll click with repetition.

๐Ÿ” Synonym Alert

  • ๋ณด๋‹ค vs ์ฝ๋‹ค โ€” ๋ณด๋‹ค is "to see/watch" (TV, a movie, or even loosely "to read" a book informally); ์ฝ๋‹ค is specifically "to read" text aloud or silently.
  • ์•Œ๋‹ค vs ๋ฐฐ์šฐ๋‹ค โ€” ์•Œ๋‹ค is "to know" (a fact, a person); ๋ฐฐ์šฐ๋‹ค is "to learn" (a skill, a language) โ€” the process of acquiring that knowledge.
  • ์ฃผ๋‹ค vs ๋ณด๋‚ด๋‹ค โ€” ์ฃผ๋‹ค is "to give" (hand something over directly); ๋ณด๋‚ด๋‹ค is "to send" (mail, message, or dispatch something to travel).
  • ์ข‹์•„ํ•˜๋‹ค vs ์‚ฌ๋ž‘ํ•˜๋‹ค โ€” ์ข‹์•„ํ•˜๋‹ค is "to like" (casual, broad โ€” food, hobbies, people); ์‚ฌ๋ž‘ํ•˜๋‹ค is "to love" (deeper, usually romantic or familial).
  • ์‰ฌ๋‹ค vs ์ž๋‹ค โ€” ์‰ฌ๋‹ค is "to rest" (relax, take a break); ์ž๋‹ค is specifically "to sleep."
ย

โš ๏ธ Pitfalls to Dodge

  1. ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋‹ค โ‰  ์•Œ๋‹ค + ์•ˆ โ€” "to not know" is its own irregular verb (๋ชจ๋ฅด๋‹คโ†’๋ชฐ๋ผ์š”), not a negated form of ์•Œ๋‹ค.
  1. ๋“ฃ๋‹ค โ†’ ๋“ค์–ด์š”, not ๋“ฃ์–ด์š” โ€” the ใ„ท becomes ใ„น before a vowel ending. Writing ๋“ฃ์–ด์š” is a very common beginner mistake.
  1. ๊ฐ€์ง€๋‹ค vs ๊ฐ€์ ธ์˜ค๋‹ค โ€” ๊ฐ€์ง€๋‹ค means "to have/hold" something; ๊ฐ€์ ธ์˜ค๋‹ค means "to bring" it (carry it here). Don't mix them up when asking someone to bring something.
  1. ์ข‹์•„ํ•˜๋‹ค takes ์„/๋ฅผ, not ์ด/๊ฐ€ โ€” "I like coffee" is ์ €๋Š” ์ปคํ”ผ๋ฅผ ์ข‹์•„ํ•ด์š”, not ์ปคํ”ผ๊ฐ€ ์ข‹์•„ํ•ด์š” (that would imply "coffee likes [something]").
  1. ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋‹ค's ๋ฅด-irregular doubling โ€” the stem vowel doubles before ์•„/์–ด: ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋‹คโ†’๋ชฐ๋ผ์š”, not ๋ชจ๋ผ์š”. This pattern shows up again with ๋‹ค๋ฅด๋‹ค (different) โ†’ ๋‹ฌ๋ผ์š”.
