🌏 Cultural Note — 정 (Jeong) and the Korean Welcome

One of the most distinctive and discussed aspects of Korean culture is 정 (jeong) — a deep sense of emotional bonding, affection, and attachment that develops over shared experiences. When foreigners experience 정 in Korea, it's often through small acts: a street vendor giving extra, a neighbor checking in, a colleague staying late to help. Mentioning 정 or saying 한국 사람들이 정이 많아요 is one of the most deeply appreciated compliments a foreigner can give — it shows you understood something fundamental about Korean people, not just the surface.
