🌏 Cultural Note — The 잘 부탁드립니다 Ritual

처음 뵙겠습니다 + 잘 부탁드립니다 is a ritual pair in Korean professional and social life. You say them together — always — when meeting someone for the first time in a formal or semi-formal context. 잘 부탁드립니다 literally means "please take good care of me" and expresses that you're entering a relationship where you hope for mutual goodwill. Skipping it after 처음 뵙겠습니다 feels incomplete to a Korean ear.

Pitfall: 잘 부탁드립니다 alone

Saying 잘 부탁드립니다 without 처음 뵙겠습니다 in a first meeting sounds abrupt — like you're making a request rather than greeting. Always use the full pair for first meetings: 처음 뵙겠습니다 + 잘 부탁드립니다.

Grammar Tip: 뵙다 vs. 보다

보다 = to see (neutral). 뵙다 = to see/meet (humble — used toward someone senior). 처음 뵙겠습니다 uses 뵙다, making it appropriately deferential. Using 보다 instead (처음 보겠습니다) in a formal context is grammatically odd and sounds casual.
