Listening Drill: Everyday Public Announcements

🔑 The Big Picture

• 열차가 지연되고 있습니다. → A train is delayed.

• 탑승구가 변경되었습니다. → The boarding gate has changed.

• 3번 출구를 이용해 주시기 바랍니다. → Use Exit 3.

• 분실물 센터로 와 주십시오. → Go to the lost-and-found center.

🧩 Core Concepts / Patterns

1. Place markers

• Subway/train: 역, 승강장, 열차, 환승, 출구

• Airport: 공항, 탑승구, 항공편, 출국장, 수하물

• Store/public facility: 매장, 안내 데스크, 고객 센터, 전시실, 매표소

2. Change markers

• 변경되다 = to be changed

• 지연되다 = to be delayed

• 취소되다 = to be canceled

• 운행하지 않다 = not operate

• 공사 중이다 = be under construction

3. Instruction endings

• -아/어 주십시오

• -아/어 주시기 바랍니다

• -기 바랍니다

• -지 마십시오

4. Number traps

✅ Exam Strategy

1. Predict the place first. If you hear 탑승구, expect an airport question. If you hear 승강장, expect a subway/train question.

2. Catch the reason. Ask: Is there a delay, maintenance, crowding, lost item, or gate change?

3. Find the required action. The correct answer usually matches the instruction sentence.

4. Eliminate near-miss choices. Wrong choices often use a true word from the script but attach it to the wrong action.

5. Do not overthink background details. For short announcements, the answer is usually direct.

⚠️ Pitfalls

• Hearing only one familiar word: 공항 alone is not enough; listen for gate, flight, and action.

• Choosing the first number: The first number may be the old gate or old time. The second number may be the change.

• Ignoring negative instructions: 이용하지 마십시오 means “do not use,” not “please use.”

• Confusing reason and action: A delay may be the reason, but the answer may ask what passengers should do.

• Missing honorific public style: -시기 바랍니다 and -해 주십시오 are standard announcement commands.
