🌏 Cultural Note — The Closing Formula

In Korean public speaking, the closing follows a three-part structure: summarize or signal the end → thank the audience → optionally open for questions or send a warm wish. Skipping the thank-you step feels abrupt. 경청해 주셔서 감사합니다 is slightly more formal than 들어주셔서 감사합니다, so choose based on context. For toasts, 건배 is always followed by eye contact and a slight bow — the words alone are only half of it.

Pitfall: Ending without thanking

Ending a speech in Korean without 감사합니다 or 경청해 주셔서 감사합니다 feels incomplete and even rude in formal contexts. Always include the thank-you — it's the social contract of Korean public speaking.

Grammar Tip: ~겠습니다

마치겠습니다 = "I will end" — the 겠 adds a sense of intention and politeness. It's the standard grammatical marker for all formal closings. Without it, the statement sounds abrupt. With it, you signal both respect and preparation.
