TL;DR: Today's words cover everyday tech: 컴퓨터 (computer), 핸드폰 (cell phone), 노트북 (laptop), 충전기 (charger), and 화면 (screen). Most of these are loanwords or Konglish — words that look English but work a bit differently in Korean!

"> covers minimalist furniture — the perfect setting for your tech setup. Quick example using all five: 노트북과 핸드폰을 충전기에 연결하고 컴퓨터 화면을 켰어요. (I connected my laptop and phone to the charger and turned on the computer screen.)

🎯 Big Picture

컴퓨터, 핸드폰, 노트북, 충전기, and 화면 are essential words for describing your devices. Several of these are loanwords or "Konglish" (English-derived terms that took on a slightly different meaning in Korean) — so pay close attention to how they're actually used.

📖 Core Vocabulary Family

1. 컴퓨터 (Computer)

컴퓨터 means computer.
  • 컴퓨터로 일해요. (I work on a computer.)
  • 이 컴퓨터는 너무 느려요. (This computer is too slow.)
Grammar note: 컴퓨터 is a loanword from English "computer" and is the general term for desktop and other computers.

2. 핸드폰 (Cell Phone)

핸드폰 means cell phone or mobile phone.
  • 핸드폰이 어디 있어요? (Where's my phone?)
  • 핸드폰 배터리가 없어요. (My phone battery is dead.)
Grammar note: 핸드폰 ("hand phone") is Konglish — a term coined in Korean from English words but not used this way in English. The more formal Sino-Korean equivalent is 휴대폰.

3. 노트북 (Laptop)

노트북 means laptop.
  • 노트북을 가지고 다녀요. (I carry my laptop around.)
  • 노트북이 가벼워서 좋아요. (I like that the laptop is light.)
Grammar note: 노트북 ("notebook") is Konglish for "laptop" — NOT a paper notebook, which is 공책 or 노트.

4. 충전기 (Charger)

충전기 means charger.
  • 충전기를 가져왔어요. (I brought my charger.)
  • 충전기가 없어서 배터리가 부족해요. (Without a charger, the battery is low.)
Grammar note: 충전기 (充電器) is Sino-Korean for "charging device." 충전하다 = to charge (a battery).

5. 화면 (Screen)

화면 means screen or display.
  • 화면이 너무 작아요. (The screen is too small.)
  • 화면이 깨졌어요. (The screen is cracked.)
Grammar note: 화면 (畫面) is Sino-Korean and is used for any device's screen or display — computer, phone, TV, etc.

🗣️ How They Work in a Sentence

  1. 노트북과 핸드폰을 충전기에 연결했어요. (I connected my laptop and phone to the charger.)
  1. 컴퓨터 화면이 너무 밝아요. (The computer screen is too bright.)
  1. 핸드폰 화면이 깨져서 노트북으로 일했어요. (My phone screen broke, so I worked on my laptop.)

🧱 General Formation Rule

  • [Device] + 를/을 사용하다 (쓰다) = to use a [device]: 컴퓨터를 사용해요, 핸드폰을 써요.
  • 충전기에 연결하다 = to connect to a charger; 충전하다 = to charge.
  • 화면을 보다/켜다/끄다 = to look at / turn on / turn off a screen.
  • 핸드폰 vs. 휴대폰 — 핸드폰 is the casual, everyday term (Konglish "hand phone"); 휴대폰 (携帶+phone) is the more formal/official Sino-Korean term. Both mean "cell phone."

🔁 Synonym Alert

  1. 핸드폰 vs. 휴대폰 — 핸드폰 is casual, everyday Konglish; 휴대폰 is the more formal/official term used in manuals, ads, and customer service.
  1. 노트북 vs. 랩탑 — 노트북 is the standard Korean term for "laptop" (Konglish); 랩탑 (a direct loanword from "laptop") is less common but occasionally heard.

⚠️ Pitfalls to Dodge

  1. 노트북 means "laptop" in Korean, NOT "notebook" (paper) — that's 공책 or 노트.
  1. 핸드폰 ("hand phone") is Konglish — it doesn't directly translate from English "cell phone," but every Korean speaker understands it.
  1. 화면 (screen/display) is for device screens; 스크린 (a loanword) is mainly used for movie theater screens.
  1. 충전기 (charger, the device) vs. 충전 (charging, the act) — don't confuse the noun with the verb stem.
  1. 컴퓨터 is the general word; for "desktop computer" specifically, 데스크탑 is sometimes used to distinguish it from 노트북.
