TL;DR
  • TOPIK II Level 3/4 success is a score-management project, not just “study more Korean.”
  • Build your roadmap around three checkpoints: diagnose → stabilize → simulate.
  • Track weak areas with weekly milestones so Reading, Listening, and Writing improve together.
🎧
🎧 Helper Note
Read the Korean roadmap phrases aloud: 중급 목표, 점수 관리, 마일스톤, 약점 분석, 실전 모의고사. Speaking the phrases helps you remember them as planning language, not isolated vocabulary.

🔑 The Big Picture

TOPIK II Level 3/4 is the bridge between basic communication and academic/professional Korean. Many learners at this stage already know grammar lists, but their scores stay uneven because they do not manage time, section balance, and milestones.
A strong roadmap answers three questions:
  • Where am I now? → current section scores, grammar control, vocabulary range, writing accuracy
  • What score do I need? → Level 3 or Level 4 target, with buffer points
  • What should I fix first? → the weakness that blocks the most points
For Level 3/4, your goal is not perfection. Your goal is stable performance under exam conditions.

🧩 Core Concepts / Patterns

1. 중급 목표: define the target clearly

A vague goal like “I want to pass TOPIK II” is too broad. Use a measurable target.
Goal type
Weak goal
Better goal
Level target
Level 3/4
Level 4 with a 10-point safety buffer
Skill target
Improve writing
Write Question 54 with clear structure and fewer repeated grammar errors
Time target
Study often
Complete one timed reading set every Saturday
Useful Korean planning language:
  • 목표 점수: target score
  • 현재 점수: current score
  • 안전 점수: buffer score
  • 약점 영역: weak area
  • 우선순위: priority

2. 점수 관리: protect easy points first

At Level 3/4, missed easy questions hurt more than missed advanced questions. Score management means:
  • Secure predictable points in Listening and Reading before chasing difficult items.
  • Avoid blank Writing responses; partial structure can still earn points.
  • Stop spending too much time on one hard Reading question.
  • Review wrong answers by cause, not only by correct answer.
Wrong-answer causes to track:
  • 어휘 부족: vocabulary gap
  • 문법 혼동: grammar confusion
  • 시간 부족: time management problem
  • 지문 구조 파악 실패: failure to understand passage structure
  • 선지 함정: distractor trap

3. 마일스톤: break the roadmap into checkpoints

A milestone is a small proof that your study is working. Good milestones are observable.
Example 8-week roadmap:
Weeks
Main focus
Milestone
1–2
Diagnosis
Complete one full mock test and classify all errors
3–4
Foundation repair
Reduce repeated grammar/vocabulary mistakes by 30%
5–6
Timed section training
Finish Reading sets within target time
7
Writing stabilization
Produce a complete Question 54 essay outline in 5 minutes
8
Simulation
Take one full timed mock exam and revise final strategy

✅ Exam Strategy

Step 1: Diagnose before rebuilding

Take one realistic practice test. Record:
  • Listening score
  • Writing score
  • Reading score
  • question types that cost the most points
  • repeated error patterns
Do not start with random worksheets. Diagnosis prevents wasted study time.

Step 2: Choose the highest-impact priority

Use this priority order:
  1. Blank or incomplete Writing → fix first because it loses many possible points.
  1. Easy Listening/Reading misses → fix next because these points are recoverable.
  1. Time collapse near the end → train pacing.
  1. Advanced vocabulary gaps → improve steadily, but do not let vocabulary lists replace practice.

Step 3: Build weekly score-management habits

A balanced week can look like this:
  • 2 days: vocabulary + grammar in context
  • 2 days: timed Reading or Listening sets
  • 1 day: Writing outline + model answer analysis
  • 1 day: error-log review
  • 1 day: short mock section or rest

Step 4: Use a simple error log

For every missed question, write one sentence:
  • 왜 틀렸는가? Why was it wrong?
  • 다음에는 무엇을 할 것인가? What will I do next time?
Example:
어휘를 몰라서가 아니라 연결어 그러나 이후의 반전을 놓쳐서 틀렸다. 다음에는 연결어에 표시한다.

⚠️ Pitfalls

  • Studying only grammar lists: TOPIK tests use grammar inside reading/listening structure.
  • Ignoring Writing until the end: Writing needs repeated planning practice.
  • No timing practice: Untimed accuracy does not always transfer to the exam.
  • Reviewing passively: Reading answer explanations is not enough; rewrite the reason in your own words.
  • Chasing Level 5/6 materials too early: For Level 3/4, stabilize intermediate accuracy first.

📌 Roadmap Template

Use this template each week:
Category

Level 3 / Level 4
Target score

Main weakness
Listening / Reading / Writing / Vocabulary / Grammar / Timing
This week’s milestone
By Sunday, I can prove improvement by ___.
