💡 Key pattern: [What to change] + ~빼 주세요 / ~넣어 주세요 / ~바꿔 주세요 — these three cover most customization requests. Add 좀 before the verb for a softer, more polite tone.

🌏 Cultural Note — Customization Culture in Korea
Koreans are accustomed to making specific customizations — especially at cafés, where drink menus often have sweetness (당도), ice level (얼음 양), and shot options (샷 추가). At restaurants, requesting 덜 맵게 (less spicy) or 따로 주세요 (on the side) is common and not considered difficult. Being specific about what you want is seen as practical, not demanding. Phrasing your request with 주세요 keeps everything polite — there's no need to over-apologize for a reasonable customization.

Tip: Soften with 좀
Add 좀 before your request verb to soften the tone: 설탕 좀 빼 주세요 (please leave out a bit of sugar), 얼음 좀 줄여 주세요 (please reduce the ice a little). 좀 makes requests sound more natural and slightly less direct — it's the Korean equivalent of "could you just..."

Pitfall
Don't say 빼 주세요 when you mean 줄여 주세요. ~빼 주세요 means "leave it out entirely" (no sugar at all), while ~줄여 주세요 means "reduce it" (less sugar, not zero). Using the wrong one could result in getting something completely different from what you wanted.

Grammar Tip
~주세요 is the polite request ending: 빼 주세요 (please take out), 넣어 주세요 (please put in), 바꿔 주세요 (please change). The verb before 주세요 is in the -아/어 connector form. To make it even more polite, add 주시겠어요? instead: 바꿔 주시겠어요? = "Could you please change it?"

Stack your customizations naturally with ~주시고요: 설탕 빼 주시고요, 얼음도 좀 줄여 주세요. (Please leave out the sugar, and please reduce the ice a bit too.) The ~고요 connector links two requests smoothly without repeating 주세요 in the first clause.

Conversation Tip
Always end your customization request with 감사해요 or 고맙습니다 — Koreans appreciate brief acknowledgment after a staff member helps with a request. And if your request is unusual, a quick 괜찮으면요 ("if it's okay") before the request keeps things light and considerate.
